LA PANAMERICANA » Day 7

El Poderoso

Purmamarca - Argentina » Alt. 2100m
Viva a liberdade.

In the Altiplano, faces change. Now their skin is coloured with dark reds, slashed eyes and dripping dark hair, flooding the streets. We have reached the starting point, in search of the Inca culture. There is a coolness all round their smiles, and a lack of interest for empty style or pointless fashion. There is no money for that, but they wouldn't care anyway. Cool Incas.
Plan A was to buy a cheap old tin and drive it all the way to Peru, through sierras and valles. We always thought a crappy Renault 12 would cost us a bag of chips. Mistake. Here cars don't lose value like in Europe. A car, for as long as it can transport and basically move (no matter how much in need of a permanent retirement), is a car, and therefore a precious valuable. Again, it's not the social status ruling. I'm getting more and more into these guys.
Plan B: Rent a car to explore the altiplano, and then cross to Chile by bus. And what a great plan it turned out to be! The little car became El Poderoso, as it swallowed infinite miles of dust and rocks, between some of the most beautiful valleys I've even seen, sided by monstruous yet posh mountain tops, dressed in wonderful colours to seduce the imense emptyness before them. To describe some of these landscapes in detail would be as pointless as explaining a girl the off-side rule. (for those who do know, please forget this last chapter). The pictures on my camera worth nothing, compared to the cascade of emotions I felt when confronted with the Tin-Tin valley, where I saw the most beautiful and crushing scenery of my life, with millions of cactus' placed randomly like Gorgonzola cheese on pasta ai Tortellini.
From 3000m on, the cactus' dissapear to the most intergalactical exhibitions of Mother Nature. From 4000m, it's the moon, with herds of curious Llamas and donkeys suspiciously looking at these astronauts. Viva a liberdade.

Welcome to my ongoing diary of thoughts and projects.
Here I sketch the storyboard of 2 characters, trapped in my body and linked to the world through my senses. They control my brain in a constant search for life waves, the eternal energy that feeds their souls.
Gummavitta is the explorer, the architect and the scientist. He searches the hemispheres of the earth, the mind and the human condition.
Mummagumma is the traveler, the painter and the dancer who collects Gummavitta´s experiences and memories and applies them to achieve connections. Connections with himself, which means you and I, us and them.
