Jazz Journalists' Panel at Scullers Nov.29, 2004

JazzJournalistsCropLeftDec16-04.jpg
.......JB Jack Bernstein looking back, Steve Schwartz sitting with Christopher Lydon,
and at the table panelists LtoR: Maggie Scott, Fred Taylor, Fenton Hollander,
Jon Hammond the moderator, Steven Bensusan with his back to us, Steve Charbonneau,
Donal Fox and the Boston Globe jazz writer Bill Meuller.
JazzJournalistsNov29-04.jpg JazzJournalists2Nov29-04.jpg
above are left side watercolor notes, I did the lit room before the panel entered,
when panelists sat I quickly sketched them into their places around the table.
Jon Hammond began by asking the panelists for bits of their Boston Jazz history,
Fred Taylor told his wonderful story about recording Dave Brubeck and Paul Desmond
at Storyville. This was the first time, for me, he pinned it down to a Sunday matinee.
Now I know I was there. That afternoon Paul Desmond was my great sax moment.
It was a Sunday when I drove from Manchester, New Hampshire to hear the Brubeck Quartet.

Fred went on to tell that day saved for us the favorite solo of Paul Desmond's life.

Hi Bill-

Nice work. I moderated this panel- any other paintings result from this event that you'd like to share?
Would love to see them!

Thanks,
